What is a honor walk?

An Honor Walk is a ceremonial procession that pays tribute to individuals who have chosen to donate their organs or tissues upon their passing. The walk typically takes place in a hospital setting, as the donor is being taken to the operating room for organ recovery.

During an Honor Walk, hospital staff, family members, and other supporters line the hallways to show their appreciation and respect for the donor and their family. It is a way to honor the selfless act of organ donation and to acknowledge the gift of life that the donor is giving to others.

The procession is usually led by medical staff pushing the donor on a gurney, accompanied by family members and loved ones if they choose to participate. It is a solemn and emotional experience that allows those in attendance to express their gratitude and reflect on the impact of organ donation.

Honor Walks are becoming more common in hospitals around the world as a way to recognize and celebrate the generosity of organ donors and their families.
